Luminosa Psychedelica, named for its glowing and vivid coloration, is a rare bioluminescent fungus endemic to tropical rainforest canopies. Its fruiting bodies feature conical to convex caps (5-25 cm) with iridescent violet and magenta hues and lighter spots enhancing luminescence. The gills emit orange-yellow light peaking at 420-490 nm via a luciferin-luciferase system producing blue-green bioluminescence, likely attracting nocturnal insects for spore dispersal. The sturdy, speckled stipes support clusters growing on decomposing wood at 15-25°C. Belonging to Agaricales, Mycenaceae, genus Luminosa within the 'Iridescent Folia' cluster, it decomposes lignocellulosic matter to recycle nutrients and sustain forest ecosystems. Elevated caps aid wind and insect spore dispersal, highlighting its ecological role as a specialized tropical decomposer.
