Luminispectus Auroraglow, named from Latin 'lumen' (light), 'spectus' (view), and 'aurora' (dawn), is a bioluminescent fungus emitting vivid blue-green light (420-490 nm). It has medium fruiting bodies up to 15 cm tall with broad, convex violet-blue caps bearing granulose projections and smooth margins. The gilled hymenium glows golden-orange; closely spaced pale orange luminescent gills connect to a robust, fibrous stipe (5-25 g) with pits and glowing spots. Utilizing a luciferin-luciferase system, it thrives on decomposing wood in humid tropical forests, playing a saprotrophic role. Classified in Agaricales, Mycenaceae, genus Luminispectus (10 species), it disperses wind-borne spores aided by bioluminescence-attracted nocturnal insects. Its mycelium forms the Galactic Mycelium cluster sustaining forest health. Vulnerable due to habitat loss; optimal at 5-25°C.
