Dataland AI Artist Residency

Dataland is proud to announce the launch of its inaugural artist residency program in partnership with Google Arts & Culture. This new initiative is designed to support visionary creators working at the intersection of artificial intelligence and creative practice, offering artists a rare opportunity to explore how AI can transform culture, storytelling, and design.

Over the course of six months, three selected artists will embark on projects that expand the creative horizons of human-machine collaborations. Residents will receive mentorship, funding, and access to advanced technical resources. The residency will culminate in a public showcase at Dataland in Los Angeles, featuring immersive installations, artist talks, and conversations on the evolving role of AI in art and culture.

Why Apply?

This residency is about building a platform for bold ideas, conceptual rigor, and experimentation. Each participant will:

  1. - Receive $25,000 in support per project

  1. - Work closely with mentors from Refik Anadol Studio and take part in three personalized sessions with Refik Anadol

  1. - Access cutting-edge tools, including Large Nature Model (LNM), Google Cloud infrastructure, and Dataland’s advanced computing systems

  1. - Share their work publicly through exhibitions and programming, gaining visibility on a global stage

  1. - Join a growing community of artists at the intersection of creativity and technology.

THE SELECTION PROCESS

  1. The Dataland and Refik Anadol Studio leadership teams will conduct an initial review.

  1. A distinguished panel of practitioners, academics, and technology leaders will evaluate the finalists and select the three residents.

Application Requirements

Applicants must submit the following materials:

  1. A completed application form

  1. A portfolio of up to 10 works (in any medium) that best represent your creative practice

  1. A project proposal (included in the application form) outlining your vision for the residency

  1. A 2-minute self-introduction video (recommended but not required)
