What Makes DATALAND a Living Museum?

Museums have traditionally been places of preservation. They safeguard objects, archive knowledge, and offer carefully curated encounters with the past. Visitors move through galleries as observers, experiencing collections that remain largely unchanged from one day to the next. DATALAND begins with a different question.

What if a museum could evolve?

What if its exhibitions responded to the people who entered them? What if its artworks were capable of change, its environments sensitive to human presence, and its experiences impossible to repeat in exactly the same way?

This is what we mean when we describe DATALAND as a living museum.

Rather than presenting a collection of fixed artworks, DATALAND operates as a dynamic museum where architecture, artificial intelligence, environmental data, and human participation continuously shape one another. Living Galleries

At the heart of DATALAND are environments that never stand still.

The inaugural exhibition, Machine Dreams: Rainforest, is powered by the Large Nature Model (LNM), the world's first nature-based multimodal AI model trained exclusively on permission-based ecological datasets. Each gallery continuously generates new visual worlds informed by biodiversity, climate systems, sound recordings, and ecological relationships gathered from rainforests around the globe.

Every gallery develops differently over time. Visuals emerge, dissolve, and transform through computational processes that remain in constant dialogue with the data from which they were born. This approach fundamentally changes the relationship between audience and artwork.

Developed in collaboration with L'Oréal Luxe, Data.Scent introduces AI-generated olfactory compositions that evolve alongside the visual and sonic environments, creating immersive atmospheres that deepen emotional resonance and strengthen memory.

Just as the Large Nature Model transforms ecological intelligence into continuously evolving visual worlds, Data.Scent translates environmental information into dynamic scent compositions. Rather than reproducing the literal smell of a rainforest, the system interprets atmospheric qualities, biological rhythms, and environmental relationships into entirely new sensory experiences. Each fragrance becomes another layer of the artwork, unfolding in dialogue with image, sound, architecture, and human presence.
