Phosphorae Veiliflora, named from Latin for light-bearing and veil-like petals, is a rare bioluminescent flowering species in the Noctiluca Arboreal cluster. This 10-25 cm tall plant features translucent, undulating petals in a layered rosette around dense stamens and pistils. Petals are pale with blue hues, dotted with orange pollen granules. Its slender stem supports gentle swaying to aid pollen dispersal. Bioluminescence emits a gentle azure glow (420-490 nm) on petal surfaces via enzymatic oxidation in glandular cells. Native to tropical rainforest canopies (10-25°C), it attracts nocturnal pollinators like moths and bats. Taxonomically in a specialized Noctiluca family of 10 bioluminescent species, it supports canopy nocturnal pollination networks and floral diversity, considered rare but stable.
