Luminopalus Glimmerensis, named from Latin 'lumen' (light), 'palus' (marsh), and 'glimmerensis' (faint glow), is a bioluminescent fungus in the Noctiluca Grove cluster. It has translucent, gelatinous caps 10-25 cm tall with convex to undulating margins and delicate lamellae, showing pale purple to lavender hues with iridescent fluorescent spots. The stout, semi-translucent stipes taper basally and weigh 5-25 g. Fruiting bodies form clusters that sway, aiding spore dispersal. Bioluminescence occurs in the hymenium and cap via a luciferin-luciferase reaction, emitting blue-green light (420-490 nm) to attract nocturnal insects. Endemic to tropical forest floors at 10-20°C, it grows on decaying hardwood, contributing to nutrient cycling. Taxonomically, it is in Basidiomycota, family Mycenaceae, order Agaricales, with a rhizomorphic mycelial network decomposing lignocellulosic substrates as a saprotroph.
